How I Do Scales 2012 by Gul-reth How I Do Scales 2012 by Gul-reth
Just to show how I shade and color the scales of my more detailed drawings with GIMP.

And because I'm tired at looking at my old, "how I make scales" deviation.

This has to be the easiest way to do scales I've ever seen... But the end result is still lovely!

Handy tutorial, thanks.
I wondered where you were going with it at first, but the end result is quite useful even for textures other than scales.

Wait... What is the function of the "Multiply" layer/brush function in the first place?

For shading, mostly, for my situation. xD
The gray I use in the first Multiply layer I make darkens/"multiplies" over the color and layers below it. And setting the brush to "Multiply" with the same gray color selected will darken whatever color I draw over on that layer every time I go over it; also, depending on the pressure of my tablet pen when I draw over an area.

Hope that makes sense. xD
